Dive into the timeless excitement of the offline 29 Card Game, perfect for enjoyment anytime, anywhere! Known also as the 28 Card Game with slight rule variations, this South Asian trick-taking game elevates the Jack and Nine as the highest-ranking cards in each suit, adding a unique twist to your gameplay.
Designed for four players in fixed partnerships, where partners sit opposite each other, 29 uses 32 cards from a standard 52-card deck. The game includes eight cards from each of the four "French" suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. The cards rank from high to low as follows: J-9-A-10-K-Q-8-7. Your goal is to capture tricks that contain high-value cards.
The card values in 29 are:
- Jacks: 3 points each
- Nines: 2 points each
- Aces: 1 point each
- Tens: 1 point each
- Other cards (K, Q, 8, 7): no points
This sums up to 28 points from the cards. Some versions of the game award an additional point for the last trick, bringing the total to 29, which explains the game's name. However, many players today do not count the last trick, yet the game retains its name as 29.
Traditionally, the Twos, Threes, Fours, and Fives from the full deck are used as trump indicators, with each player holding a set of these cards, one in each suit. The Sixes serve as scoring tools, with each partnership using one red and one black Six.
