Number of players: 4.
The game uses a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives 13 cards. All spades are trump cards.
In swamp trump spades, only spades are declared as trump.
The goal is to predict how many tricks you’ll win before the round starts, and then try to win at least that many.
Starting to the right of the dealer, each player declares how many tricks they'll take. This is recorded on the scoreboard.
Gameplay:
The next player leads with any card. If a card is already on the table, you must follow suit if possible.
If you cannot follow suit, you may play a trump card. Otherwise, play any card.
Scoring:
At the end of each round, scores are calculated based on the number of tricks bid at the start and tricks won at the end.
If you meet or exceed your bid:
10 × bid + (tricks won − bid) points.
If you win fewer tricks than your bid:
You lose 10 points for each trick you bid.
If a player bids zero at the start of the round:
+50 points for taking no tricks, −50 points for taking any trick.
Settling is the term used when you fail to meet your bid by the end of the game.
