The gavel echoes through the silent courtroom. The air is thick with tension. A single accused stands before you — a man in worn clothes, hands trembling, eyes darting like a trapped animal. The jury is still. The evidence lies before you.

🕵️‍♂️ THE SCENE:

It’s 10:17 PM on a stormy night.
The victim — Eleanor Voss, a wealthy philanthropist — was found dead in her locked study, a single stab wound to the heart.
She was last seen alive at 9:30 PM, speaking on the phone with her butler, Mr. Alistair Finch.

There are no signs of forced entry. The only window was locked from the inside.
The murder weapon — a ceremonial dagger, engraved with the Voss family crest — was found clutched in the victim’s hand, blade still glistening.

But here is what the prosecution says:

• The butler claims he was in the kitchen, preparing tea, at 10:00 PM.
• The maid, Clara, says she heard a loud argument between Eleanor and the butler at 9:45 PM.
• The butler's alibi: He says he poured tea at 9:50 PM — but the kettle was still cold when she checked.

And then… a crucial clue:

🔍 On the floor near the desk, a single, smudged footprint — but it’s not the butler’s. It’s a woman’s size 7, in red shoe polish. Eleanor wore size 7 shoes, but she was wearing black slippers at the time of death.

🧩 THE EVIDENCE BOX (Your Honor, review these):

1. The dagger in the victim’s hand — Typical for a suicide, but the wound is too deep and angled for self-inflicted harm. It was thrust from behind, not upward.

2. The locked room — No one else entered. The door was locked from the inside. All windows sealed.

3. The footprint — Red shoe polish matches the maid’s shoes. But Clara says she never wore red polish. The label on her shoebox says “Blue Polish Only.”

4. The phone log — Eleanor’s call to the butler at 9:30 PM was not an apology, as the butler claims. The recording shows Eleanor saying: “You lied about the will. I’ll expose you.”
