Microsoftは、5月にSkypeをシャットダウンすることを正式に発表し、Microsoftチームの無料バージョンに置き換えました。この動きは、WhatsApp、Zoom、FaceTime、Messengerなどの他のプラットフォームが、かつてSkypeの定番だった従来の携帯電話の呼び出しを陳腐化に押し進め、Voice over IP（VoIP）の通信スペースを支配し続けています。
