A new trailer for the highly anticipated TV series, Alien: Earth, has surfaced online, giving fans an in-depth look at what's to come. The trailer, which was first showcased at Disney's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders and later shared on the @CineGeekNews X/Twitter account, dives deep into the harrowing journey of a spacecraft's survivors as they navigate a crisis caused by a Xenomorph, all while hurtling towards Earth.

The trailer has sparked excitement by unveiling a fresh Xenomorph design and, more notably, by closely echoing the aesthetic of Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 horror film, Alien. Viewers are transported into a MU/TH/UR control room strikingly similar to the one aboard the Nostromo, where the original film's protagonist, Ripley, uncovered the dire fate of her crew.

In the Alien: Earth trailer, the tension escalates as a crew member frantically seeks assistance, pounding on a sealed door as the Xenomorph wreaks havoc. The character Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears detached from the chaos, reporting the escape of "specimens," pronouncing the crew's demise, and setting the ship's collision course with Earth. The trailer then shifts to a group of six soldiers advancing towards an unknown threat, presumably the crashed ship, hinting at impending peril.

This glimpse into Alien: Earth raises numerous questions about the narrative's direction. Will Morrow make it through? What drives his actions? Are there any other survivors among the crew? Is anyone carrying a Xenomorph embryo? And what fate awaits the soldiers as they confront the alien threat?

Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth is strategically placed within the Alien timeline, occurring shortly after Prometheus and just before the events of the original Alien. This positioning has fueled speculation among fans that the series might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or shed light on how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani Corporation learned about the Xenomorphs. For context, the recently released Alien: Romulus serves as an interquel, bridging the gap between Alien and Aliens.

In an insightful discussion last January, showrunner Noah Hawley elaborated on his decision to steer away from the Prometheus backstory for Alien: Earth. Hawley, who values the "retro-futurism" of the original films, consulted with Ridley Scott on various aspects of the Alien franchise but chose to forge a path that aligns more closely with the lore established in the earlier movies, distancing himself from the bioweapon narrative introduced in Prometheus.

Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025, with Alien: Romulus 2 also on the horizon, promising to further expand the universe fans have come to love.

FX’s Alien series is set in 2120, well after Prometheus and just two years before Alien and the unfortunate events that befell the crew of the Nostromo. Because of this setting within the Alien timeline, fans have speculated that Alien: Earth may depict the Nostromo leaving Earth, or reveal how evil megacorp Weyland-Yutani found out about the Xenomorphs. As a reference point, the recently released interquel Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.

In January last year, showrunner Noah Hawley explained why he is not using the backstory provided in Prometheus for Alien: Earth, saying he likes the "retro-futurism" of the original films. Hawley said he spoke to Alien chief Ridley Scott about "many, many elements" of the Alien series, including its ties to the prequels, but ultimately decided to cut loose and move away from the bioweapon backstory because he preferred the lore of the original films.
