Amazon Cancels 'Wheel of Time' After Three Seasons

Author:Kristen Update:May 28,2025

The Wheel of Time series on Prime Video has come to an end after Amazon decided not to renew it for a fourth season, following the conclusion of Season 3. According to Deadline, the decision came after extensive deliberations, with executives appreciating the show but unable to justify its continuation due to financial constraints.

The Wheel of Time is a beloved fantasy series, adapted from Robert Jordan's extensive book collection, and stars Rosamund Pike among others. The initial two seasons faced significant backlash from fans due to deviations from the original material. However, Season 3 managed to win over much of the fanbase, setting high hopes for future seasons.

PlayThe cancellation has left fans disheartened, especially given that the series was just beginning to unfold its epic narrative.

The high production costs of The Wheel of Time, shared between co-producers Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, ultimately led to its demise. Amazon MGM Studios also produces the costly The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which may have influenced their decision.

Deadline reported that despite a solid performance in Season 3, the costs were too high for Prime Video to continue, even after exploring various scenarios and consulting with Sony TV.

IGN's review of The Wheel of Time Season 3 awarded it an 8/10, praising the show for finally reaching its full potential and delivering a season rich with character development within Robert Jordan's intricate fantasy universe.

Although the TV adaptation has ended, fans can look forward to a 'AAA Open-World RPG' based on The Wheel of Time. IGN interviewed iwot Studios, the rights holder, to learn more about this exciting new project.
