Anbernic Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Tariff Issues

Author:Kristen Update:May 05,2025

Anbernic, a prominent manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced the suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. According to The Verge, the company advised customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by the new import duties. This move ensures that these items can still be purchased with confidence, while orders requiring shipment from China will no longer be processed.

Anbernic is well-known for producing affordable Game Boy-style clones, which are usually shipped directly from China upon release and then supplemented with stock in U.S. warehouses. The company's website offers customers the choice between shipping from the U.S. or China. However, not all products are available from U.S. stock, meaning that certain items, such as the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H, will no longer be accessible to American consumers.

The Trump administration's implementation of tariffs, which can reach up to 145% on Chinese imports, and the potential for tariffs on some items like electric vehicles to increase to 245%, has significantly impacted the market. These costs are often passed on to consumers, contributing to rising prices for tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.

Anbernic is actively seeking solutions to support customers who face custom fees during this period of transition. They are committed to resolving these issues as swiftly as possible.

In related news, Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Originally, pre-orders for the console were slated to open in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff-related uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada, Nintendo has delayed the pre-order date to April 24. Despite the delay, Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games, though prices for most Switch 2 accessories have been raised.
