Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Author:Kristen Update:May 12,2025

In the expansive world of *Path of Exile 2*, power boosts come in various forms, some straightforward and others more complex. One such method is anointing, which can significantly enhance your gameplay. Here’s a detailed guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* becomes available later in the game, requiring a crucial resource known as Distilled Emotions. These are obtained primarily from Delirium Maps, similar to Blight Oils in the original game. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The most common way to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these resources. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market if you're looking for specific types.

To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, use the Reforging Bench. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version, allowing you to tailor your collection to suit your needs.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build due to increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing is applicable to both Waystones and amulets. As *Path of Exile 2* is currently in Early Access, future updates may introduce additional anointing options. To anoint an amulet, select any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place the amulet in the central slot, followed by three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are listed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint should align with your current build, but remember, anointing isn’t permanent. You can re-anoint an amulet to change the passive skill, allowing you to adapt to new builds as needed.

The same anointing process applies to Waystones, which can increase their difficulty but also improve the loot they provide. Note that neither corrupted amulets nor Waystones can be anointed.

With this knowledge, you're well-equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build for optimal performance, or challenging yourself with an anointed Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2* is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, inviting players to delve into its rich, evolving world.
