Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who were unable to play their favorite games after a recent Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla to address the issues caused by the Windows 11 24H2 update. However, some Ubisoft titles, such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, may still be experiencing problems.

The Windows 11 24H2 update introduced several new features, including support for Wi-Fi 7, enhanced energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC capabilities. Unfortunately, it also led to some gamers facing difficulties with launching or properly running certain games, including those in the Assassin's Creed series. The newly released fixes should resolve these issues for Origins and Valhalla.

Ubisoft has confirmed that both Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have been updated to fix the problems stemming from the Windows 11 update. These updates should automatically download through Steam, allowing players to enjoy uninterrupted gameplay. However, players need to ensure they have enough storage space; the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's update takes up 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

The exact cause of the issues with Ubisoft games following the Windows 11 24H2 update remains unclear. While the fixes for Origins and Valhalla are welcomed, some players have reported that other Ubisoft games, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, continue to face challenges such as unresponsiveness or complete failure to function. Ubisoft has previously released hotfixes for other titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but some performance issues may still linger. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a specific fix is available.

Although the situation is improving, the initial problem was unfortunate. Players started reporting issues with various games when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months earlier, yet the issue persisted into the official rollout. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, most other games seem to have been unaffected by the update.
