"Avowed: To Give or Not Give Keipo the Leviathan Heart?"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 20,2025

In the *Avowed* side quest "Heart of Valor," the final decision regarding Keipo and the precious Leviathan Heart presents a challenging choice. As the quest unfolds, you learn that Chiko's uncle, Keipo, is afflicted with the Dreamscourge and has been less than truthful about his past, particularly concerning his partner Umpara's death. This revelation opens up various paths for your decision-making process.

The most significant narrative branch in this quest revolves around whether to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart. This decision directly impacts the ending and the unique loot you can obtain. However, by making the right dialogue choices, you can secure every piece of gear available.

We strongly recommend not giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart at the end of *Avowed's* "Heart of Valor" side quest. By choosing this path, you can obtain all the possible loot while preserving Thirdborn's hope by keeping Keipo's secret hidden.

To achieve this, you must uncover and read Keipo’s Weathered Journal, located by pressing a button on the curved stone structure near the Leviathan Heart's location.

We'll first outline the base rewards for each decision path, followed by the specific dialogue choices needed to secure everything.

Reward for Giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart

By fulfilling Keipo's dying wish and handing over the Leviathan Heart, you receive Umpara’s Spear, a powerful Exceptional Quality +1/3 weapon that was his fallen partner's keepsake. The spear boasts the following stats and abilities:

Physical Damage88
Stun84
Stamina Cost13
Critical Hit Chance6%
Ability #1Deadly Mechanism: Power Attacks launch a poison dart
Ability #2Strike the Heart: +25% Critical Hit Damage

Reward for Not Giving Keipo the Leviathan Heart

By refusing to give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and making the correct dialogue choices with Chiko, you will be awarded the Stormdancer armor set. Additionally, you can keep the Leviathan Heart as a Unique Trinket, granting a +20% Attack Damage boost at the cost of slowly draining your health. The Stormdancer armor set includes the following pieces with their stats and abilities:

Stormdancer Armor PieceQualityDamage ReductionAdditional Damage ReductionMaximum StaminaMaximum EssenceAbility #1Ability #2

To obtain these armor pieces, select the following dialogue options when Chiko mentions, "I’m sorry my uncle is sick…":

  • "Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge."
  • "He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe."
  • "There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it."

The third option is crucial, as choosing incorrectly will upset Chiko, causing them to leave and forfeiting the Stormdancer armor set.

How To Get All the Loot in Heart of Valor

To secure every piece of gear at the end of *Avowed's* Heart of Valor side quest—the Leviathan Heart, Umpara’s Spear, and the entire Stormdancer armor set—without exposing Keipo’s secret to Thirdborn, follow these dialogue choices in the specified order when speaking with both Keipo and Chiko after finding Keipo’s Weathered Journal:

Talking to Keipo

  • "We need to talk. Now."
  • "Come clean. Chiko told me you want to end your life."
  • "We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you had the Dreamscourge."
  • "I’m sorry. I can’t give you the heart."
  • "I respect your choice. But I can’t be a part of it."
  • "Listen. I…I know what happened to Umpara."
  • "And? Why didn’t you tell the truth?"
  • "That’s why you really trapped the ruins. So no one would find out."
  • "No. The truth would do more harm than good."

Note that discussing Umpara’s fate first will prevent you from obtaining Umpara’s Spear. Mentioning it last allows you to secure both.

Talking to Chiko

  • "Don’t worry. It’s right here with me."
  • "He wanted to take his own life with it. Chiko stepped in to prevent that."
  • "Let me hold onto it. I’ll take it far away and keep it safe."
  • "[Lie] No, that was all."
  • "Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge."
  • "He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe."
  • "There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it."

If you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and receive Umpara’s Spear, you can still obtain the Stormdancer armor set by revealing Keipo's Dreamscourge affliction to Chiko and repeating the final two dialogue choices above. However, this path requires exposing Keipo's secret to Tira Nui Hajime, leading to Thirdborn losing its most hopeful story and missing out on the Leviathan Heart.

By following our exact sequence of dialogue choices, you can secure a powerful set of armor, a unique spear, the Leviathan Heart as a trinket, and maintain a bittersweet resolution for all involved—without having to choose between one or the other.
