Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Larian Says Its 'Full Attention' Is on Its Next Game, 'Media Blackout' for the Foreseeable

Larian Studios, the creators of the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, have announced a media blackout as they shift their focus entirely to their next, currently unannounced project. While players eagerly await Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 later this year, Larian's CEO, Swen Vincke, confirmed the studio's full attention is now dedicated to this new endeavor. Vincke's recent tweet expressed gratitude for the success of Baldur's Gate 3 but hinted at an exciting future.

In a statement to VideoGamer, Larian clarified that this new game will not be a Baldur's Gate sequel or another D&D title. Instead, it's an entirely original creation, a departure from the studio's previous work, stemming from a lack of internal enthusiasm for a direct Baldur's Gate follow-up.

Previous statements from Vincke offer tantalizing, albeit vague, clues. In November 2023, he teased the new project as a boundary-pushing endeavor. Earlier, in July 2023, he mentioned the possibility of a future Divinity: Original Sin sequel, but emphasized that it wouldn't be the studio's immediate focus after the launch of Baldur's Gate 3.

Given Larian's history of fantasy RPGs, speculation about their next project runs wild. Will they venture into science fiction, a contemporary setting, or perhaps even experiment with a different genre altogether? The mystery surrounding Larian's next game is considerable, and it may be years before the details are revealed.
