The iconic weapon system that defines Borderlands is receiving significant upgrades in its fourth installment. In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+, executive producer Chris Brock revealed how Borderlands 4 builds upon the previous games' successful formula while introducing innovative changes.

"We're maintaining what made our gunplay special while adding elements that'll truly surprise players," Brock explained. The new "licensed parts" system will allow behaviors from different manufacturers to appear across various weapons.

Borderlands' signature brand-specific weapons return with enhanced clarity, helping players quickly identify preferred firearms among the billions available.

The game welcomes three brand-new manufacturers: Order, Ripper, and Daedalus. Familiar favorites like Jakobs, Maliwan, and Torgue return, while some brands from Borderlands 3 have been retired following story developments.

Senior project producer Anthony Nicholson emphasized Gearbox's commitment to weapon diversity: "We're constantly expanding our arsenal with new manufacturers, legendary weapons, and customization options. Borderlands 4 will offer unparalleled variety."

Free Hazard Pay Weapon Skin

Gearbox is offering an exclusive early bonus - players who subscribe to SHiFT newsletters before launch will receive the Hazard Pay Weapon Skin. The promotion requires linking SHiFT accounts to preferred gaming platforms before Borderlands 4's release.

Additional rewards may appear through SHiFT codes included in future Borderlands communications.
