Author:Kristen Update:Feb 24,2025

The Borderlands movie is facing more than just scathing reviews in its opening week. While critics have largely panned the film, a behind-the-scenes controversy has emerged regarding uncredited work.

A Rocky Premiere

The Eli Roth-directed adaptation currently boasts a dismal 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 49 critic reviews. Critics have been particularly harsh, with descriptions ranging from "wacko BS" to "lifeless" and "uninspired." While some design aspects have earned praise, the humor has largely fallen flat. Audience scores are slightly more favorable at 49%, with some viewers appreciating the film's action and crude humor, despite concerns about altered lore.

Uncredited Work Sparks Controversy

Adding to the film's woes, freelance rigger Robbie Reid recently revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he and the character modeler for Claptrap were not given screen credit. Reid, who has previously received credit for all his film work, expressed disappointment, suggesting the omission may stem from their departure from the studio in 2021. He highlights this as a common, yet problematic, industry issue.

Reid's statement underscores a larger concern within the film industry regarding the treatment and crediting of artists. While the negative reviews are a significant blow, the uncredited work adds another layer of complexity to the film's troubled premiere.
