Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Celebratory Video for 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has subtly hinted at the possibility of Resident Evil 9 through a cleverly hidden tease. In celebration of reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by an infected horde wearing party hats, casually making their way toward a church.

The video takes an amusing turn with Dr. Salvador strumming his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, accompanied by a rock song, while the camera shifts to a triumphant Leon fist-pumping. Behind him, a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign catches the eye. However, eagle-eyed fans who turn the sign on its side will notice the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," representing the number 9.

While some might dismiss this as a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that a lower plank, essential to forming the "IX," appears in this part of the video but not in earlier scenes, suggesting intentional placement. One surprised fan responded with, "I know what you did here," followed by a wide-eyed emoji, indicating the tease did not go unnoticed.

Adding to the excitement, Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, potentially Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi shared his thoughts on the challenge of following up Resident Evil 7, saying, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore, though this remains unconfirmed.
