Captain America: Brave New World Is One of the Shortest Marvel Cinematic Universe Films

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 17,2025

Captain America: Brave New World is making history as one of the shortest films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the shortest Captain America movie yet. AMC Theatres announced a runtime of 1 hour and 58 minutes, placing it among the seven shortest MCU films out of 35. This is a significant departure from the previous three Captain America films, all of which clocked in at over two hours.

While most of the shorter MCU films hail from Phases 1 and 2, a few more recent additions also boast shorter runtimes. The shortest MCU film is 2022's The Marvels at 1 hour and 45 minutes, followed by The Incredible Hulk, Thor: The Dark World, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. Brave New World shares its runtime with Ant-Man and The Wasp. In contrast, the longest MCU film is Avengers: Endgame at 3 hours and 1 minute, followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Eternals, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Despite its relatively short length, Brave New World has reportedly undergone numerous rewrites and reshoots, including scenes featuring WWE star Seth Rollins. The impact of these revisions on the final runtime remains unclear.

This film marks a new era for the Captain America franchise, starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, following Chris Evans' retirement as Steve Rogers. Mackie promises a continuation of the series' grounded, espionage-focused storytelling.

Brave New World is poised to introduce some deep-cut Marvel characters, including a payoff to a tease from The Incredible Hulk with the introduction of The Leader, and also features Red Hulk. The film's release date is February 14th.
