Channing Tatum’s Canceled Gambit Movie Had a '30s Screwball Romantic Comedy Vibe Set in the Superhero World

Lizzy Caplan, in a recent interview with Business Insider, revealed details about the scrapped Channing Tatum Gambit movie. She described the film's concept as "a really cool idea," a 1930s-style screwball romantic comedy set within the superhero universe. This aligns with producer Simon Kinberg's 2018 comments to IGN, where he described the intended tone as a "romantic or sex comedy vibe," fitting with Gambit's character. Caplan confirmed her involvement, stating they were "gonna shoot it" and a start date was even set. The project ultimately fell apart following the 2019 Disney-Fox merger, leaving Tatum reportedly "traumatized" by the experience. Despite this setback, Tatum's surprise cameo as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine has reignited speculation about the character's future in the MCU, though Marvel Studios remains tight-lipped. Last August, Ryan Reynolds' tweet of a high-quality Deadpool & Wolverine scene further fueled fan theories. (Warning: Deadpool & Wolverine spoilers may follow.)
