Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, fans are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation has significantly enhanced the experience.

This update boasts improved technical performance and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play is enhanced with shared item pickup and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the game's accessibility, stating that the team prioritized making it enjoyable for a wide range of players.

Players will have extensive control over enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader gameplay aspects like tempo, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton assures players that prior experience with the DOOM universe isn't necessary to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
