Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio Composer's Upcoming Turn-Based JRPG Gets Free Steam Demo

The highly anticipated Guns Undarkness, led by the legendary Persona series composer Shoji Meguro, is set to debut a free demo at the upcoming Steam Next Fest. Known for his iconic contributions to the gaming industry, Meguro collaborates with renowned Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshino and rapper Lotus Juice, who has previously worked on Persona 3.

Since joining the gaming world in 1995, Meguro has been a cornerstone of Atlus' soundtracks, including celebrated franchises like Shin Megami Tensei and Persona. Following his departure from Atlus, he ventured into indie development while continuing to contribute music for major titles. His latest creation, Guns Undarkness, is a sci-fi stealth-action JRPG produced under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Announced at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Guns Undarkness successfully completed its Kickstarter campaign in 2022, exceeding its stretch goals. The free demo will launch at the Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, with the full game scheduled for Early Access later this year.

Inspired by classics like Metal Gear Solid and Persona, Guns Undarkness immerses players in a dystopian 2045 where humanity teeters on the edge of collapse. As part of a private military company, players embark on missions alongside allies, unraveling the mysteries of the world to save civilization.

The game combines stealth and tactical combat elements. Players navigate environments undetected during stealth phases, gaining strategic advantages in battles. Turn-based gameplay allows precise command execution, utilizing various firearms to overcome challenges.

The demo will feature approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including tutorials for controls, the battle system, and initial strategies. The Early Access version, launching in Spring 2025, is expected to offer around 10 hours of gameplay on PC. Stay tuned for further updates as the release draws near.
