The acclaimed series Shōgun, which triumphed with 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an exciting second season. Cosmo Jarvis, renowned for his role as pilot John Blackthorn, has confirmed his return and will also step into the role of co-executive producer, as per an official FX press release.

Moreover, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who committed to Season 2 in May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been elevated to the position of executive producer, having already produced the first season. Production for Season 2 is slated to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the original series was filmed.

PlayFX has announced that the upcoming season will be "a wholly original new chapter" to the first season, which was adapted from James Clavell's novel. Elaborating on the connection between the two seasons, the network stated:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battled for his survival against his adversaries in the Council of Regents. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, with its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), brought crucial strategic insights that shifted the power dynamics in Toranaga's favor, aiding his victory in a pivotal civil war.

"Season two of Shōgun is set a decade after the first season's events and will continue the historically-inspired narrative of these two men from diverse backgrounds, whose destinies are deeply intertwined."

While fans eagerly anticipate new episodes, potentially arriving by the end of 2026, all we can do for now is wait with bated breath and hope for the best.
