Coyote vs. Acme May Hit Theaters Despite Cancellation

Exciting news for fans of classic cartoon capers: Coyote vs. Acme, the Warner Bros. movie that was thought to be permanently shelved, might just make its way to the big screen after all. According to Deadline, Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company Ketchup Entertainment is currently in deep negotiations to acquire the film. While the deal isn't finalized yet, a potential theatrical release is on the horizon for 2026.

Coyote vs. Acme, announced back in 2022, draws inspiration from Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article of the same name. Co-written by James Gunn and featuring Will Forte and John Cena, the film was originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max. However, despite having completed filming, it was unexpectedly shelved, sparking a dedicated campaign to save it.

Ketchup Entertainment has a track record of rescuing films from oblivion. They recently saved another Warner Bros. project, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, from a similar fate. This film, the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit theaters, has been hailed as a "laugh-out-loud riot" by IGN. Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes notable releases like Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck, as well as co-producing Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
