Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition Claims 25% of Nintendo Switch 2 Storage

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 15,2025

CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will require 64GB of storage on the Nintendo Switch 2. This is notably less than the 100-110GB needed on Xbox or PS5, yet it occupies a significant 25% of the Switch 2's 256GB internal storage.

Set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available as a 64GB physical game card or as a digital download via the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo recently revealed that some Switch 2 game cards will include only a download key rather than the full game. This does not apply to Cyberpunk 2077, which will be fully contained on the card.

This raises concerns about how quickly the Switch 2's internal storage might reach capacity.

The Switch 2 offers 256GB of internal storage, a substantial upgrade from the original Switch’s 32GB. However, early indications suggest that Switch 2 games will demand significantly more space.

As noted, Cyberpunk 2077 requires 64GB. In contrast, one of the largest games on the original Switch, Tears of the Kingdom, was only 16GB. Other Switch 2 titles, such as the $80 Mario Kart World, are also expected to require considerable storage.

The solution lies in expandable storage, a feature supported by the PS5, Xbox, and the original Switch. Unlike its predecessor, which used standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 exclusively supports microSD Express. This means older microSD cards are incompatible, and users will need to purchase new, more expensive microSD Express cards.

IGN’s deals team has identified competitive prices for Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, including 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), and 1TB ($199.99) options from SanDisk and Lexar. Some of these are already in high demand, with certain models listed as "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon.

Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to offer branded microSD Express cards, though these are likely to cost more than comparable third-party options. The growing demand for Switch 2 storage may attract additional manufacturers to the microSD Express market, but it’s uncertain whether this will lead to price reductions.
