Destiny 1 Gets Surprising Update Seven Years Later

Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Decorated in Unexpected Update

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's Tower social space has received an unannounced, festive makeover. Lights and decorations have appeared, baffling players and sparking speculation. This surprising update, occurring in the original Destiny game, which remains playable despite the 2017 launch of Destiny 2, has left the community wondering about its origins.

While Bungie has focused heavily on Destiny 2's ongoing content and expansions, a dedicated fanbase still enjoys the original game. The addition of legacy content like the Vault of Glass and King's Fall raids, and even exotics like the Icebreaker, demonstrates Bungie's continued support for the original title's legacy. However, this recent Tower update is entirely unexpected.

On January 5th, players discovered Ghost-shaped lights adorning the Tower, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning. However, unlike previous events, there was no snow, and the banners differed. Crucially, there were no in-game notifications or quests associated with these decorations.

A Scrapped Event's Unexpected Return?

The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed towards a cancelled event called "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Breshi's video showcased unused assets that strongly resemble the current Tower decorations, suggesting the unexpected update may be a remnant of this scrapped event. The theory proposes a placeholder future date was assigned to the event's code, leading to its unintentional reactivation years later.

As of this writing, Bungie has remained silent. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This unexpected update, therefore, is not an official event, but a temporary, accidental treat for players before Bungie likely removes it. Enjoy the surprise while it lasts!
