Digimon Con Reveals New Project: Digital TCG Launch Imminent?

For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is set to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a slew of exciting announcements and updates on upcoming projects within the franchise. However, one particular teaser has sparked significant interest: a confused Renamon alongside a mobile phone.

The obvious inference from this teaser is the potential announcement of a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). While Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android, similar to many of their physical trading card games, the recent launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket suggests that a mobile Digimon TCG could be on the horizon.

It's important, however, to temper our excitement slightly. The teaser might simply indicate that mobile devices will be used to stream the upcoming livestream later this week, rather than hinting at a new mobile platform for the TCG.

Going digitalIt's undeniable that Digimon, while beloved, is often overshadowed by Pokémon. During the late '90s and 2000s, there was a notable rivalry between the two, but Pokémon has since claimed the global pop culture crown. Digimon, on the other hand, remains a favorite among nostalgic anime enthusiasts.

Launching a digital TCG would not be a guaranteed success for Digimon as it has been for Pokémon. However, it's also not a high-risk move, given the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG.
