As you approach the maximum level in *Rune Slayer*, engaging the Hill Troll becomes a strategic choice for both XP gains and securing early endgame loot. This guide will help you pinpoint the location of the Hill Troll and provide tips on how to effectively battle it and utilize its drops.
The Hill Troll is cleverly concealed in a cave situated on the side of the mountain in Bahlgar. To reach it, start from the elevator in Lakeshire and head down to Bahlgar, as if you're preparing to confront Beastmen. Instead of engaging them, stick close to the mountain wall and continue around it. You'll pass two platinum deposits; keep an eye out for the cave entrance on one side of the mountain. To enter, you'll need to jump into the opening, ideally on a mount. It may seem tricky at first, but once you've done it, revisiting the cave will become second nature. Below is a gif illustrating the path to the Troll Cave.
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is one of the more manageable mini-bosses in *Rune Slayer*. You'll likely need to battle it multiple times, so familiarize yourself with its attack patterns. It's strongly advised not to tackle the Hill Troll alone; team up with at least one other player due to the Troll's powerful, yet slow, attacks. These attacks can be parried or blocked, except for the overhead slam with the pillar, which you should dodge to avoid being stunned.
The Hill Troll uses a giant pillar for its attacks. As a Warrior Class player, executing a Counter can stun the Troll effectively. The Troll respawns just 90 seconds after being defeated, making it an ideal target for farming.
While the Hill Troll can drop rare equipment, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are essential for crafting decent endgame gear, preparing you for tougher challenges like the Mother Spider. The Troll Head is crucial for the repeatable Hodor Quest, available every hour near the cave. Handing over a Troll Head to Hodor offers a chance at acquiring powerful random loot.
Unfortunately, taming the Hill Troll is not an option in *Rune Slayer*, even for Beast Tamer Archers. Its status as a mini-boss, along with its size and nature, makes it unsuitable as a pet. If you're a Beast Tamer Archer, stick to taming more manageable creatures like the Mud Crab.
That concludes our guide on the Hill Troll in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your battles and the loot you gather. For more endgame strategies, don't forget to check out our Essential *Rune Slayer* End Game Tips.
