How Doctor Doom 2099 Works in Marvel Snap

Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: After each turn, if you played exactly one card, a DoomBot 2099 is added to a random location. These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing +1 power buff to other DoomBots and Doctor Doom himself. This includes regular Doctor Doom cards, creating synergistic power boosts.

The strategy revolves around playing one card per turn to maximize DoomBot 2099 deployment. Early deployment of Doctor Doom 2099, or using cards like Magik to extend the game, significantly amplifies his power potential. Ideally, he functions as a 17-power card (or more) with strategic play.

However, there are weaknesses. DoomBot 2099 placement is random, potentially hindering your strategy. Furthermore, Enchantress completely negates their power boost, making her a significant counter.

Doctor Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes him ideal for Spectrum-style ongoing decks. Here's an example:

Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doctor Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught.

This budget-friendly deck (mostly Series 4 cards) offers flexibility. Aim to play Doctor Doom 2099 early using cards like Psylocke or Electro. Wong, Klaw, and Doctor Doom synergize well to spread power. Alternatively, use Electro to power up 6-cost cards like Onslaught and Spectrum. Cosmo protects against Enchantress, a crucial counter.

Another effective approach uses a Patriot-style deck:

Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doctor Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum.

This low-cost deck (mostly Series 4) utilizes Patriot's power-boosting ability alongside Doctor Doom 2099. Early game plays include Mister Sinister and Brood, followed by Doctor Doom 2099, Blue Marvel, and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu discounts 4-cost cards for early game flexibility. Super Skrull counters other Doctor Doom 2099 decks, a common strategy in the early meta. Note that you can strategically skip a DoomBot 2099 spawn to play two 3-cost cards on the final turn, adding flexibility. However, this deck is vulnerable to Enchantress.

Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?

While the Spotlight Cache cards accompanying Doctor Doom 2099 (Daken and Miek) are considered weak, Doctor Doom 2099 himself is a worthwhile acquisition. His power and the ease of deck building around him make him a likely meta-defining card. Using Collector's Tokens is the preferred method, but he's a valuable addition regardless. He's poised to become one of Marvel Snap's most impactful cards unless significantly nerfed.
