Dragon Age Actress Responds to Veilguard Backlash

Voice actor Alix Wilton Regan, renowned for portraying the Female Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Veilguard, has shared heartfelt thoughts about last year's mixed reception toward BioWare's latest installment. She attributes much of the negativity to internet detractors who "hoped for the game's failure."

A Passionate Defense

During a recent IGN interview discussing her celebrated gaming roles—including Microsoft's upcoming Perfect Dark reboot—Wilton Regan expressed deep disappointment about The Veilguard's struggle to capture mainstream appeal despite favorable critic reviews.

"It truly crushes me seeing BioWare face such polarized responses," Wilton Regan reflected. "I genuinely believed they delivered signature BioWare magic—rich storytelling with bold creative choices."

"Some outright rooted against it," she continued, referencing toxic online behavior. "The gaming community contains remarkable people, but also those who seemingly exist to tear things down."

Launch Controversies

The Veilguard sparked heated debates upon release, with review bombing targeting its LGBTQ+ representation—including a non-binary companion and transgender character customization. Steam's community tags prominently feature "Politics" alongside the "Mixed" user rating.

"Attacking a work before experiencing it demonstrates willful ignorance," Wilton Regan asserted. "Critiquing execution is valid—condemning progressive themes outright is something else entirely."

Behind-the-Scenes Impact

EA later confirmed The Veilguard sold roughly 50% below projections, coinciding with director Corrine Busche's departure. Subsequent layoffs affected multiple BioWare developers, with January's update marking the apparent conclusion of post-launch support.

"My heart goes out to everyone at BioWare," Wilton Regan added warmly. "Their brilliance transcends any single release—I've no doubt their next projects will remind everyone why they're industry legends."

A streamlined BioWare currently focuses on Mass Effect 5's development, though no launch window has been revealed.
