Dragon Age: The Veilguard Surprise Free Weapon DLC Released

Although BioWare has nearly moved on from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the game's dedicated team hasn't given up entirely. In a surprising move, they've added a small DLC weapons pack to the game, much to the delight of fans. Yesterday, the RPG’s Steam page was updated to include the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on that has sparked excitement within the community. Given EA's earlier indication that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would receive minimal future support, this new content feels like a breath of fresh air. Especially since the game's fifth patch in January suggested that future updates would primarily focus on fixing game-breaking bugs, this additional content, albeit small, feels like a small miracle.

The Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is available exclusively to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC by April 8, 2025. While there's no detailed description of what the bundle includes, players have discovered that it provides access to a set of Watchful skins, which can be used in the Rook's in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Feedback on the new content has been mixed but generally positive. One Steam review noted, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" Meanwhile, a Redditor commented, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to positive reviews in October but, according to EA, did not capture a broad enough audience. In late January, lead members of the team announced their departure from BioWare as much of the staff faced layoffs or reassignment within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio was shifting its full focus to the next Mass Effect game.

Despite its limited support, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was included in the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles lineup, just four months after its release. No further plans for the game's future have been disclosed.
