The latest installment in the beloved Like a Dragon series is poised to stretch the limits of reality while delivering a deeply engaging "manly drama," as shared by RGG Studio in an interview with Automaton Media.

While the series is renowned for its humor and light-hearted moments, with Majima often cited as one of the funniest characters, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama has revealed that this iteration of Majima will start off with a "more serious" demeanor.

Ryosuke Horii, the producer behind Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, elaborated on Yokoyama's comments, emphasizing the "manly drama" at the heart of the game. This narrative focuses on Majima's fervent journey towards his goals and the deep connections he forms along the way. "The goofing off isn’t the main focus – at its core, it's a tale of manly drama. Of course, there are wild detours, but overall, it's a straightforward story about a passionate man."

Horii further highlighted Majima's unique qualities, which set him apart from the series' long-time protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. As translated by Automaton, "If we didn’t fully utilize Majima's unique traits, there'd be no point in making him the lead. That’s why we've pushed the boundaries of reality more than we would with Kiryu, aiming to provide players with rich, varied action. ... I aimed to balance the pirate theme, Majima's essence, and the spirit of 'Ryu ga Gotoku', which was quite challenging."

The game promises to strike a perfect balance between realism and extravagance, ensuring the gameplay is "wilder" yet maintains a serious and compelling drama.

Majima Maji Festival In Japan

To celebrate the game's imminent release, RGG Studio is hosting a special event, Majima's Maji Festival, across six cities in Japan. The event kicked off in Sapporo on December 1, 2024, and is set to conclude with stops in Nagoya on January 18th and Tokyo on January 25th.
