Dune: Awakening Delay: Beta Feedback Prompts Three-Week Extension

Author:Kristen Update:May 06,2025

Dune: Awakening, the much-anticipated open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's films, has been postponed to June 10, 2025. Funcom, the game's developer, made this announcement, emphasizing that players eager for an early experience can dive into the game five days earlier on June 5 by purchasing the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition.

Funcom cited the need for additional development time as the reason for the delay. After receiving valuable feedback from the ongoing Persistent Closed Beta, the team decided they needed "a bit more time to cook." This extra time will allow them to incorporate essential changes suggested during the beta phase, enhancing the overall gaming experience.

In addition to the delay, Funcom announced a "large-scale beta weekend next month," which will give more players the chance to try out Dune: Awakening and provide further feedback. While the delay might be disappointing for eager fans, Funcom is hosting a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This livestream will delve deeper into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, offering fans a closer look at what to expect.

At IGN, our excitement for Dune: Awakening remains high. As we noted in our hands-on preview, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."
