The Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership

FromSoftware has unveiled more details about their newly announced exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique design for the keeper of the hub area, introducing a character that's notably... cute.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with a striking image of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as it turns out, is the new hub companion for The Duskbloods.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in an interview with Nintendo, explained the character's role, saying, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further elaborated on the design choice, stating, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

When pressed for more details on the "Nintendo-esque" approach, Miyazaki added with a laugh, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."

FromSoftware's shrine keepers have traditionally been pivotal in guiding players through their challenging worlds. Iconic figures such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have been constant presences, often providing players with crucial power-ups and insights to progress.

As The Duskbloods ventures into the realm of PvPvE, the nature of the guidance offered by the winged rat remains a mystery. Miyazaki teased that FromSoft is experimenting with "a lot of new and interesting ideas," hinting at surprises in store for players when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
