Dynasty Warriors 10 Was Canceled

Dynasty Warriors: Origins – A New Beginning Forged From Cancellation

Dynasty Warriors: Origins, launching January 17, 2025, boasts the series' signature hack-and-slash combat set against the backdrop of China's Three Kingdoms period. Players assume the role of an amnesiac protagonist, interacting with iconic historical figures. However, the game's genesis is rooted in the cancellation of its predecessor, Dynasty Warriors 10.

The decision to scrap Dynasty Warriors 10 stemmed from a significant technological leap. Witnessing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and other contemporary consoles, Omega Force opted for a strategic shift. Instead of continuing with the planned, stage-clearing format reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors 7, they pivoted towards a more modern, strategic experience.

Development producer Masamichi Oba, in an interview translated by SiliconEra, confirmed the cancellation of this "phantom" title. While difficult, abandoning the project allowed the team to integrate its best elements into Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This includes the game's free-roaming map, a feature Oba had envisioned for the canceled title, and a more in-depth exploration of the Three Kingdoms narrative. Producer Tomohiko Sho emphasized the impact of next-gen consoles in driving this creative redirection, enabling a superior Dynasty Warriors experience. The resulting game incorporates refined gameplay mechanics and strategic elements from both the canceled Dynasty Warriors 10 and previous installments.
