This final stage of Chapter 2 tasks you with defeating Dong Zhuo. Expect a significantly longer and more difficult battle than previous missions.

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the bottom right of the map. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.

After securing all bases, assault Hulao Gate. The ensuing battle is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, weakening the defenses and allowing you to advance.

Lu Bu Appears

Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation; he’s overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers around the periphery to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly drains. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will hold him off, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; if Liu Bei's forces retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo to prevent Lu Bu from eliminating Yuan Shao and ending the mission.

Go After Dong Zhuo

Once Lu Bu leaves, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Then, capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads ready, and fully healed, charge towards Dong Zhuo's commander circle.

Dong Zhuo initiates a Grand Tactic involving fireballs. Destroy the front two catapults to end it. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through the soldiers guarding the catapults. Focus on eliminating surrounding soldiers and officers.

Dong Zhuo launches another fireball Grand Tactic, but this time, defeating an officer ends it. Take the right-hand stairs, encountering Diaochan (who has defected to Dong Zhuo). If possible, duel her to avoid fighting her and the officer simultaneously.

With the Grand Tactic thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your victory. Defeat Dong Zhuo (a duel isn't necessary; he'll be significantly weakened).
