EA Releases Source Code for Four Command & Conquer Games

Electronic Arts (EA) has taken a remarkable step by releasing the source code for four iconic titles in the Command & Conquer series. The games in question—Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade, and Command & Conquer: Generals—are now available to the public on GitHub under an open license. This bold move empowers fans and developers to delve into, modify, and enhance these cherished classics, offering a unique opportunity to revitalize the gaming experience.

In a complementary effort, EA has also rolled out Steam Workshop support for newer Command & Conquer games that run on the SAGE engine, including Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. This integration simplifies the process for players to create and share custom content, thereby fostering a dynamic and community-driven gaming environment.

Although EA might not be actively developing new content within the Command & Conquer franchise at the moment, the series remains a favorite among its dedicated fanbase. By making the source code publicly available and improving modding capabilities, EA is giving enthusiasts the tools they need to inject new energy into the series. This initiative not only keeps the legacy of Command & Conquer alive but also has the potential to draw in a new audience, eager to either experience or contribute to the rich history of the franchise.
