An Elden Ring player, chickensandwich420, has embarked on an ambitious challenge: defeating the notoriously difficult boss, Messmer the Impaler, daily until the release of the upcoming spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign. This self-imposed marathon began on December 16th, 2024.

A Daily Grind on NG+7

Instead of passively awaiting Nightreign's launch, chickensandwich420 is actively engaging with Elden Ring's challenging content. Each day, he tackles Messmer on NG+7, employing a different weapon each time and aiming for a flawless, no-hit victory. This feat is particularly impressive considering Messmer's reputation for extreme difficulty, with players often requiring numerous attempts to defeat him, even with optimal equipment.

Initially planning to fight various FromSoftware bosses, chickensandwich420 opted for the daily Messmer challenge due to his university studies. He prioritizes his academic work, making this a focused, yet demanding, undertaking.

The challenge, however, has a deadline: June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, chickensandwich420 will shift his focus to other games. This self-imposed timeframe translates to approximately 160 days of consecutive Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone, three-player co-op adventure set within the Elden Ring universe. While a 2025 release is anticipated, FromSoftware's track record suggests potential delays. The success of chickensandwich420's challenge hinges on Nightreign's timely arrival.
