An unofficial PC port of Sonic Unleashed, titled "Sonic Unleashed Recompiled," has been created via Xbox 360 recompilation. This isn't a simple port or emulation; it's a ground-up PC version featuring high-resolution and high-framerate support, plus mod compatibility and Steam Deck functionality.

The 2008 platformer, originally released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and Wii (with a PlayStation 3 version following in 2009), never received an official PC release. This fan-made project addresses that long-standing omission.

PlayImportantly, playing Sonic Unleashed Recompiled requires owning the original Xbox 360 game. The port utilizes static recompilation to convert the original game files into a playable PC version.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in console recompilation. Following several Nintendo 64 titles receiving similar PC ports in 2024, this suggests a potential trend for Xbox 360 games.

Online reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans celebrating the free, open-source availability of a beloved title in enhanced form. Many expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting its impact on the Sonic fanbase and the accessibility it provides to a wider audience.

However, the project's implications for Sega remain uncertain. While fans applaud the revitalization of older games, publishers might view such fan-made ports as a threat to potential official releases. Sega's response to this unofficial port remains to be seen.
