FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 28,2025

With just under 24 hours until the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next console. A recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has sparked speculation about the potential controller lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2. The filing, spotted on Famiboards and reported by Nintendo-focused sites like GoNintendo, was submitted on March 31 under the product code "BEE-008." Many fans are theorizing that this could be the registration for a new Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

While this is purely speculative, as Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller, certain features listed in the filing suggest it could indeed be a Pro Controller. Notably, the inclusion of Bluetooth and NFC capabilities are consistent with what one might expect from a Pro Controller. An intriguing detail from the filing is the potential addition of a headphone jack, a feature missing from the original Switch Pro Controller but present in competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. If true, this would be a welcome quality-of-life improvement for gamers.

Historically, Nintendo's FCC filings have offered early glimpses into their plans, adding some credibility to the speculation surrounding this controller. However, without further leaks between now and the Direct, we'll likely have to wait for Nintendo's official announcement to get the full picture.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, with hopes of revealing more details, including a potential release date. The Direct is set to last an hour, and Nintendo has also planned two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 sessions for hands-on gameplay demonstrations on April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
