The launch of the anniversary website earlier this year already sparked interest in a possible remake, which was further amplified when Square Enix shared a quote from Vivi on Twitter.

The latest website update features small icons of four main characters, which, when clicked, reveal short descriptions accompanied by new artwork from FF9's character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana. Itahana is also known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These descriptions encapsulate each character's role and objectives within the story.

While no official confirmation of a remake has been made, the meticulous attention to detail in these updates has led fans to believe that a significant announcement regarding FF9 might be on the horizon. For now, enthusiasts will need to stay tuned for more updates.

New Merch Available

Square Enix has also expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise lineup for FF9. New items include Garnet's necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi's hat, and a set of acrylic standees among other collectibles.

Reservations for Garnet's Silver Necklace are now open, with an expected release date of November 15. Priced at approximately 38,500 yen ($260), it's a must-have for collectors. The replica of Vivi's hat, available for reservation as well, is set to release on September 6 and costs about 17,600 yen ($120).

The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection features eight different designs, available in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for fans.

With all these developments and the extensive range of merchandise, the anticipation for a FF9 remake feels more tangible than ever. Despite Square Enix's silence on the matter, fans remain optimistic about revisiting their cherished adventure in Gaia.
