Final Fantasy 14's Yoshi-P Says There May Be 'Good News' in the Future About FF14 on Nintendo Switch 2

Have you tried the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14? Now you can play the full A Realm Reborn experience, plus the award-winning Heavensward and Stormblood expansions—all the way up to level 70—for free, with no time limits. Still haven’t? You only own Nintendo devices and nothing else?

Don’t worry—Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has you in mind. In a recent interview with VGC at Gamescom, Yoshi-P addressed questions about bringing FF14 to the Nintendo Switch 2, and the outlook looks encouraging. “My goal is to make Final Fantasy 14 and 16 accessible to as many players as possible, and I truly hope everyone gets the chance to enjoy both games,” he said. “We’re putting our full effort into making this a reality, so feel free to tell your readers that I see strong potential here and we’re working hard to make it happen.”

Yoshi-P added that this move would also benefit current players, allowing some to tackle raids and main story content on PC while using a Switch 2 to unwind on the couch with gathering and crafting.

“For players new to Final Fantasy 14—especially younger audiences—if they started playing on Switch 2, MMOs might be a fresh genre for them. I’d be thrilled to welcome them into this world and help them fall in love with the game.”

“To that end, we’ve been in talks with Nintendo, and the conversations have been positive. I genuinely hope players will look forward to some good news down the line.”

Final Fantasy 14 has long been available on PlayStation and PC, but it’s now also on Xbox and mobile, making it one of the few MMORPGs playable across nearly every major platform. Nintendo has been the exception, likely because earlier systems couldn’t handle an MMORPG of this scale. Could the Nintendo Switch 2 finally run Eorzea and all its inhabitants? We sure hope so—and soon.

Yesterday, during Gamescom Opening Night Live, we got some fresh Final Fantasy 14 news: a Monster Hunter x Final Fantasy 14 crossover is coming this fall, with content flowing between Monster Hunter Wilds and FF14. But if you’re not already playing FF14, you won’t be able to jump straight into the Monster Hunter events—you’ll need to complete the latest expansion, Dawntrail, which is a multi-hundred-hour journey unless you pay to skip the story.
