At the recent PAX East panel, Wizards revealed a number of standout cards that highlight character arcs and memorable moments from *Final Fantasy*. For instance, Cecil from *Final Fantasy IV* features a transformation mechanic—from Dark Knight to Paladin—mirroring his journey in the game. Meanwhile, classic summons are represented using a “Saga Creature” system, capturing the essence of temporary but powerful entities on the battlefield, blending the worlds of *Magic* and *Final Fantasy* seamlessly.

One of the most striking reveals was *Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER // Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel*, featuring artwork by Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura. The dual-card design reflects Sephiroth’s evolution throughout *FFVII*, culminating in his iconic Safer form.

The inclusion of Cid characters from various *Final Fantasy* games also made waves. While fans expected a nod to Final Fantasy VII’s Cid Highwind, Wizards went with the elder statesman version from *Final Fantasy XV*, named Cid, Timeless Artificer.

Following the panel, Wizards released the full Commander decklists, allowing fans to dive deeper into how each selected title was adapted into *Magic* mechanics. The results have been praised for staying true to the spirit of each game while offering fresh gameplay twists.

Reprints and reimagined versions of existing Magic cards also received clever *Final Fantasy* touches. Notably, *Skullclamp* now features Jenova, tying directly into the lore of *Final Fantasy VII*. Another emotional highlight was *Together, Forever*, which pays tribute to the poignant story arc of *Final Fantasy X*, potentially revealing spoilers for those unfamiliar with the game’s narrative.

Humor also found its way into the set. Cards like *Clever Concealment* recreate the Wall Market disguise scene from *FFVII*, while *Secret Rendezvous* offers four different Golden Saucer date options—Aerith, Tifa, Barret, and Yuffie—adding charm and flavor to gameplay.

Fans of *Final Fantasy XIV* were especially delighted with the attention to detail. The Hildibrand Manderville card mirrors his signature disappearing act, and *Archaeomancer’s Map* even references an actual treasure map location from the game. Memorable characters like Thancred inspired community jokes, and the *Rite of Replication* card offered a humorous nod to A Realm Reborn’s legendary speech.

Even smaller elements, like *Tome of Legends*, accurately depict Wondrous Tails books from *Final Fantasy XIV*, complete with in-game Easter eggs such as failed four-in-a-row attempts—a subtle but appreciated touch for longtime players.

With so much care put into every card, this crossover promises to be one of the most immersive and lovingly crafted collaborations yet. While the four highlighted games received deep dives, teasers like *Commune With Beavers* hint at even more creative interpretations from other *Final Fantasy* titles within the main set.

Mark your calendars—the *Magic: The Gathering x Final
