Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Civilization VII's rocky launch prompts developer response. Firaxis Games acknowledges player concerns regarding Civilization VII's less-than-stellar reception, currently boasting a 47% positive rating on Steam. Criticism centers not on core gameplay mechanics, but on a simplified interface, missing features, and a perceived lack of content.

The developers are prioritizing interface enhancements to improve map readability, streamline menus, and create a more intuitive user experience.

Planned additions include:

  • Multiplayer team functionality.
  • New map types.
  • Customization options (renaming religions and cities).

A significant update (1.1.0) addressing balance and incorporating these improvements is slated for a March release. While the full game launched on February 11th, many reviewers feel it was released prematurely and requires substantial refinement. The $70 price point has also faced considerable backlash, with players arguing it doesn't reflect the game's current state.

Civilization fans eagerly anticipate updates that address these issues and restore the series' reputation for quality and detail. The hope is that future patches will elevate Civilization VII to meet the high standards set by its predecessors.
