Firaxis Stays Silent on Switch 2 'Mouse'

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal showcased a potential "mouse" mode for the Joy-Cons. A segment in the trailer depicts detached Joy-Cons placed on a surface, connecting to what appear to be flat-bottomed connectors, and then moving like a mouse on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is even visible on one connector.

Pre-reveal rumors suggested this functionality, attributing it to a sensor inside the Joy-Cons similar to those in computer mice. However, Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications.

The Switch 2 reveal sparked speculation about potential game adaptations, particularly Civilization 7. While already confirmed for the original Switch, an IGN interview with Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach and executive producer Dennis Shirk hinted at possibilities. Shirk responded to the potential mouse functionality with intriguing ambiguity, stating it was "definitely intriguing" and acknowledging the potential benefits of improved controller options. He stopped short of confirming any specific Civilization 7 adaptations.

While Firaxis won't directly announce a Switch 2 version, 2K Games, the publisher, likely will.
