FPS Games Poised for Return on PS5, Xbox Series

Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation of four classic and modern Doom titles, may be making a comeback on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The collection, which includes Doom, Doom II, Doom III, and the 2016 Doom reboot, was delisted from digital storefronts in 2024.

Recent ESRB ratings suggest a re-release is imminent, specifically targeting PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Notably, the ratings omit Switch and last-generation consoles, hinting at an exclusive current-gen digital release. The ESRB rating for Doom 64 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S further strengthens this speculation, as Doom 64 was included with physical copies of the Doom Slayers Collection.

The original Doom, released in 1993, revolutionized the first-person shooter genre with its groundbreaking 3D graphics, multiplayer capabilities, and mod support. Its enduring legacy and influence make a re-release of this collection a potentially significant event. While a previously planned Secret Level crossover never materialized, the return of the Doom Slayers Collection seems increasingly likely.

Games Included:

  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom III
  • Doom (2016)

This potential re-release follows a similar pattern from Bethesda, the publisher, who previously delisted Doom and Doom II before re-releasing them as a combined package. This aligns with id Software's history of porting its titles to current-gen consoles, as seen with Quake II.

Beyond the potential Doom Slayers Collection return, fans can anticipate Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel set in a medieval setting, launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025. This promises a unique twist on the established sci-fi franchise.
