The free-to-play 3v3 shooter, Spectre Divide, is shutting down just six months after its September 2024 launch and weeks after its arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its developer, Mountaintop Studios, is also closing its doors.
Mountaintop CEO Nate Mitchell confirmed the news in a social media statement. He explained that the Season 1 launch fell short of the success needed to sustain the game and the studio. While the game initially attracted around 400,000 players in its first week, with a peak concurrent player count of approximately 10,000 across all platforms, sustained player engagement and revenue were insufficient to cover operating costs. Despite exploring options like securing a publisher, additional investment, or acquisition, Mountaintop was unable to secure the necessary funding. Mitchell acknowledged the current challenging climate within the gaming industry.

Spectre Divide will be taken offline within 30 days. Players will receive refunds for any in-game purchases made since the Season 1 launch.
This news contradicts October 2024 reports assuring players that Spectre Divide would continue. Mitchell previously stated that Mountaintop had sufficient funds to support the game long-term.
IGN's August 2024 preview praised *Spectre Divide*'s tactical 3v3 gameplay and its unique Duality system, allowing players to control two characters simultaneously. However, the game's swift closure follows a string of failed live-service titles, including Rocksteady's *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League* and Sony's *Concord*.
