Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) may eventually grace PC screens, fueled by statements from Take-Two's CEO and Rockstar's historical release patterns. Let's delve into the latest developments and what the future holds.
While a PC release hasn't been officially announced, hints suggest it's a strong possibility. During a February 10, 2025 interview with IGN, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed platform release strategies. He noted that Civilization VII would launch simultaneously on consoles and PC, but other titles often follow a staggered rollout. Zelnick highlighted Rockstar's history of initially releasing on select platforms, then expanding later.
This aligns with past releases: GTA V debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, arriving on PC in November 2019.
While not explicitly confirming a PC release for GTA 6, Zelnick's comments indicate a strong likelihood. Major titles in the Grand Theft Auto franchise typically make their way to PC eventually, although many fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch this time.
Zelnick emphasized the growing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can contribute up to 40% of total sales. He also observed the increasing importance of PC in what was traditionally a console-driven market.
Despite reports of declining PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sales, Zelnick expressed confidence in GTA 6's success across platforms, believing it will boost console sales for both Sony and Microsoft. He highlighted the historical impact of major game releases on console sales. He further predicted an increase in console sales in 2025 due to upcoming releases from various publishers.
GTA 6 is slated for release in Fall 2025, but a precise date remains unannounced. Stay tuned to our Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates.
During Take-Two Interactive's Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed interest in bringing their games to the Nintendo Switch 2. He cited their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and the evolving nature of the Switch audience, which now caters to a broader demographic. With Civilization VII already confirmed for the Switch, Zelnick hinted at future support for the platform.
