GTA 6: S-Tier Potential? Ranking All Rockstar Games

Author:Kristen Update:May 15,2025

The excitement for the new GTA 6 trailer is palpable, and if you missed it, we've analyzed all the hidden gems and details for you. Unfortunately, we'll need to wait until May 26, 2026, to dive into Lucia and Jason's world. In the meantime, let's take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and rank the Rockstar games we've loved over the years.

Rockstar has crafted over 30 games since its inception in 1998, giving us iconic franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Manhunt. But which one reigns supreme? Note that you won't find games like LA Noire or Max Payne 2 on this list, as we're focusing solely on titles developed by Rockstar, not just published by them. I've ranked them using an IGN Tier List, based purely on my personal enjoyment over the years. Check out my tier list below:

Topping the S-tier is Red Dead Redemption 2, which I consider my all-time favorite game. It's joined by its predecessor and GTA 5, both trailblazers in the cinematic open-world genre. I also have a special affection for Max Payne 3 with its mesmerizing bullet time mechanics, and GTA San Andreas, which I played far too young. At the bottom of the D-tier, you'll find games like Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! and Welcome to My Underground Lair!, which are, frankly, not worth revisiting.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you believe Vice City outshines GTA 4? Feel free to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
