The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to build, but fans might have to wait a while longer for the release of GTA 6 Trailer 2. This comes after Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive, expressed a preference for releasing marketing materials closer to the game's launch date. In December 2023, Rockstar released GTA 6 Trailer 1, which shattered viewership records, but since then, no new assets have been shared, leading to a 15-month wait that has only fueled more speculation and conspiracy theories.
These theories have ranged from counting the holes in Lucia’s cell door net, to analyzing bullet holes in the car from Trailer 1, and even scrutinizing registration plates. The most notable theory, however, is the ongoing moon watch, which accurately predicted the announcement date for GTA 6 Trailer 1 but was debunked as a hint for Trailer 2's release date.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick discussed the secrecy around GTA 6's release date, stating, "The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property... We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement." He emphasized the strategy of releasing marketing materials closer to the release window to balance excitement with unmet anticipation, a tactic that former Rockstar developers like Mike York have also acknowledged.
York, who worked at Rockstar New England and contributed to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, noted on his YouTube channel that Rockstar is intentionally fueling speculation to enhance the game's allure and mystery. He believes this approach not only engages the community but also creates hype and discussion without any active effort from the company.
Given Zelnick's comments, fans may need to wait until closer to the anticipated fall 2025 release date for GTA 6 to see Trailer 2. This could mean another six months of waiting for more glimpses of the most eagerly awaited video game in the world.
While you wait for GTA 6, keep up with IGN's coverage, including insights from an ex-Rockstar developer on potential delays, Zelnick's thoughts on the future of GTA Online post-GTA 6, and expert opinions on whether the PS5 Pro will run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.
