Guinness Records: 20K Pokémon TCG Cards Unpacked in 24 Hours

A new Guinness World Record has been set! The Pokémon TCG achieved a remarkable feat by opening over 20,000 cards in a continuous 24-hour livestream. This marathon unboxing event, held to celebrate the launch of the Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks expansion, involved popular online personalities and set a new standard for the longest unboxing livestream.

A Record-Breaking Livestream

On November 26th, 2024, The Pokémon Company International shattered the existing Guinness World Record for the longest unboxing livestream. The event, streamed live on Twitch, featured prominent figures such as Serebii’s Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. These influencers collectively opened approximately 1,500 booster packs and various other Pokémon products, resulting in a staggering collection of over 20,000 cards.

Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his pride in this achievement, highlighting the collaborative effort with the content creators. While the livestream has concluded, the Pokémon Company promises further giveaways on participating creators' channels within the next two weeks. The amassed cards will be donated to charities, including Barnardo’s in the UK, before the holidays.

Celebrating Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks

The record-breaking event served as a significant promotion for the Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks expansion, released on November 8th, 2024. This expansion transports players to the Terarium, a key location from the Indigo Disk DLC (Part 2) of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The set introduces Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, such as the defensively powerful Archaludon ex, alongside iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, and others. Collectors can also find visually appealing illustration rare and special illustration rare cards featuring Pokémon like Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, evoking a tropical atmosphere. New Tera Pokémon ex, including Pallossand ex and Flygon ex, further enhance the strategic options for TCG players.

The Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks expansion is also accessible through the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering digital players the opportunity to collect and battle with these new additions and earn in-game rewards.
