IGN has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting *Hollow Knight: Silksong*—the game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in September 2025. This long-awaited title from Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, has been topping the Steam wishlist chart for years, and while the exact release date remains uncertain beyond a general 2025 window, this event marks a significant milestone.
From September 18, visitors to the Melbourne museum can experience *Silksong* as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction. This immersive experience will delve into the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as the intricate logic behind the game's challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their enthusiasm, stating, "Since *Hollow Knight: Silksong*'s initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from *Silksong*, one of several design elements that will be on display. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
With *Silksong* set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans are speculating that a release might occur before then, possibly in August. The excitement is building, especially after *Silksong* made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, confirming the 2025 release window. This was the most significant update on *Silksong* in years, showing new gameplay footage during the hardware-focused presentation.
Originally planned for Nintendo Switch and PC, with later additions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, *Silksong* has been the subject of numerous intriguing teases. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, fueling fan hopes for a re-reveal in April. As the anticipation continues to grow, the playable demo at ACMI represents a thrilling step closer to the full release of *Hollow Knight: Silksong*.
