While starting with basic equipment, exploration unlocks superior weapons tailored to your playstyle. This guide details weapon acquisition in Hyper Light Breaker, a game blending roguelike and extraction elements.

Acquiring New Weapons

New weapons are primarily found within Overgrowths. Explore freely, but for targeted weapon hunts, focus on sword (Blades) or pistol (Rails) icons on the map.

Blades are melee weapons with unique movesets and abilities, while Rails are ranged weapons with diverse functionalities. Both come in varying rarities, with gold being the most powerful. As expected, rarity correlates with superior stats.

To save weapons for later runs, press the Cache button instead of Equip when discovering them in Overgrowths. Manage your loadout before embarking on new runs.

Obtaining New Starting Weapons

Beyond discovered weapons, purchase new starting gear from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. Repairing the Rails merchant's shop requires gathering sufficient materials.

Merchants have limited stock, but their inventories refresh periodically. If initial offerings are unappealing, check back later.

Weapon Upgrades

Upgrade weapons at the Outpost merchants, but first unlock the upgrade function by increasing merchant affinity. This requires Golden Rations, obtained through exploration or cycle resets. Golden Rations are scarce, so use them judiciously.

Death reduces equipped weapon durability (represented by a bar under the icon) by one pip. Repeated deaths will eventually break weapons.
