Despite enthusiastic fan response to Edwards' reveal, Activision canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development commenced. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. Many commenters noted Tony Stark's design, significantly different from the later MCU portrayal by Robert Downey Jr. The game's design more closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version from the early 2000s. Edwards stated that the design was the artist's choice. He promised further gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this has yet to be released.
