Following the release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge, Edwards began work on the Iron Man project, tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's original comic book name. His recent Twitter posts included the game's title card, Genepool Software's logo, and several gameplay screenshots. He also shared original Xbox gameplay footage, showcasing the startup screen and a segment of the desert-based tutorial.

Activision's Decision to Cancel "The Invincible Iron Man"

Despite enthusiastic fan response to Edwards' reveal, Activision canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development commenced. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards offered several possible reasons: delays in the film's release, dissatisfaction with the game's quality, or perhaps another developer was chosen for the project.

A Unique Iron Man Design

Many commenters noted Tony Stark's design, significantly different from the later MCU portrayal by Robert Downey Jr. The game's design more closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version from the early 2000s. Edwards stated that the design was the artist's choice. He promised further gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this has yet to be released.
